Glossary
The EVE Online terms this site uses, in plain English. Hover or tap a dotted term anywhere on the site for a short version.
Combat
- DPS
- Damage per second. How hard something hits over time.
- Alpha
- The damage from a single volley, all at once.
- EHP
- Effective hit points: how much raw damage a ship or NPC can absorb once its resistances are counted. Bigger means it takes longer to kill.
- Tank
- A ship's ability to survive damage, by buffer (more hit points) or by repairing faster than it is hit.
- Neut (GJ/s)
- An energy neutraliser drains your capacitor, which powers your modules. GJ/s is how fast.
- Scram
- Warp scrambler. Stops you warping away, and switches off a microwarpdrive.
- Web
- Stasis webifier. Slows your ship down.
- Remote reps
- NPCs that repair each other. Kill the repairers first or the others will not die.
- Trigger
- The NPC whose death spawns the next wave. Leave it alive until you are ready.
Wormholes
- J-space, J-code
- Wormhole space: systems with no stargates, named J followed by six digits (for example J100001).
- C1 to C6
- Wormhole class. Higher classes have tougher sites and better rewards. C13 is shattered, frigate-only space; C14 to C18 are the Drifter systems.
- Static
- A wormhole connection a system always has. When it collapses, a new one of the same type appears.
- K162
- The exit side of any wormhole. It takes the destination, mass and lifetime of the hole on the other side.
- Rolling
- Deliberately collapsing a wormhole by flying mass through it. See the rolling calculator.
- Sleepers
- The NPCs that guard wormhole sites.
- Blue loot
- Sleeper salvage that sells to NPC buy orders at fixed prices, so its value does not move with the market.
Exploring and harvesting
- Anomaly
- A site that shows on your probe scanner straight away, no scanning needed.
- Signature
- A site you have to scan down with probes before you can warp to it.
- m³
- Cubic metres, EVE's measure of cargo volume. Gas and ore are bulky, so hold size in m³ decides how much you carry.
- Gas cloud scoop / harvester
- The modules that harvest gas. Scoops fit ships with turret hardpoints; harvesters fit mining barges and exhumers.
- Fullerite, Cytoserocin, Mykoserocin
- The three families of gas: Fullerite from wormhole reservoirs, Cytoserocin and Mykoserocin from nebulae in known space.
Money and the game
- ISK
- EVE's currency.
- LP
- Loyalty points, earned from faction warfare and missions and spent in a faction's store.
- FW
- Faction warfare: the four empires' permanent war over low security systems.
- Jita buy / sell
- Jita is the main trade hub. Selling to a buy order is instant but pays less; listing a sell order pays more if you can wait.
- Alpha / Omega
- Free and subscribed accounts. Alphas train fewer skills and only one can be logged in at a time.
Source grades
- A: ESI-derived / official
- Derived from EVE's live public API (ESI) or official developer documentation.
- B: Community-corroborated
- At least two independent community sources agree.
- C: Single-source / unverified
- One source only, or known-stale. Treat with caution.
- V: Verified on camera
- Run and recorded by Down the Chain; linked to the episode.
