T2 invention: what to invent and build near Jita

Which Tech 2 modules, ammo and drones pay as a new character with no blueprints, ranked for your skills, slots and wallet: invention odds, every material and fee at today's Jita prices, and the ISK a day one line makes once it is running. The industry engine from MIDAS, our own tool, with everything personal taken out.

Prices from 2026-09-28 19:45 UTC, refreshed every hour. Invention needs an Omega clone. Always check odds and prices in game before you commit.

  1. Train Industry V first (about six days from nothing): nearly every Tech 2 build needs it. Then set your skills, wallet and where you build. Everything re-ranks as you type.
  2. Buy the Tech 1 blueprint at Jita, copy it, and invent at the lab shown, with the datacores listed.
  3. Build the copy in one job, list it at a tick under the best Jita price, and reprice when you have been undercut.

You have 1 factory slot and 1 lab slot. Invention and copies run at Sobaseki X - Moon 12 - Propel Dynamics Factory in Sobaseki (1 jump from Jita). Fees: sales tax 7.50%, broker fee 3.00%.

Your first line

1 line for 1 factory slot. ISK to start: 5.6M. Expected profit once running: 3.1M a day after every fee. First copy built in about 1.4d.

  1. A Ship Scanner II no decryptor, 37.1% odds, 10 units a job, 3.2M/job · 3.1M/day · start 5.6M

One line per factory slot, at most two of a kind, cheapest to start among the near-equal picks. Profit a day is what the lines make together once the loop is running, each with one factory slot and its share of the lab, limited by whichever is slowest: factory time, lab time, or how fast the item sells. Questions new inventors ask

What is T2 invention in EVE Online?

You buy a Tech 1 blueprint original, copy it, and run invention on the copy with two datacores (and an optional decryptor). Each attempt succeeds about a third of the time and gives a Tech 2 blueprint copy with a few runs, which you then build like any other blueprint and sell at a hub.

Which skills do you need before your first T2 build?

Industry V, because nearly every Tech 2 blueprint requires it to build (it is a rank 1 skill, about six days from nothing, less with the free skill points a new character gets). Then level 1 in the item's racial Encryption Methods skill and its two datacore sciences to invent at all. Every level after that raises the odds.

Can an Alpha clone do invention?

No. Alpha clones cannot run invention or research jobs and can only build Tech 1 items. You need Omega, and the encryption and science skills are rank 5, so budget real training time.

How much ISK do you need to start T2 invention?

The tool prices it for you: the Tech 1 blueprint, enough datacores for a 90% chance of one success, and one build's materials and fees. Many module lines start under 50M ISK.

Why does the tool say to invent somewhere other than Jita?

No station in the Jita system has a research lab, so invention and copying run a few jumps out. Jita's manufacturing cost index is also the highest in the game, so building one or two jumps away saves a lot on job fees.

How it works

Odds, decryptors and what a success gives you

Each attempt succeeds with the item's base chance (34% for modules, ammo and drones) times 1 + Encryption Methods / 40 + (the two science skills) / 30, times the decryptor's modifier. A success is a Tech 2 blueprint copy with the item's base runs (5 or 10 here), ME 2 and TE 4, adjusted by the decryptor. A failure still eats the datacores, the decryptor and one run of your Tech 1 copy. ME is Material Efficiency (each point cuts materials by 1%) and TE is Time Efficiency (each point cuts build time by 1%). "Best for each line" tries all nine options and keeps the one that makes the most ISK a day for your skills. Tap a row to see the comparison.

Where to build, and why not Jita

Job fees are the item's estimated value times the system's cost index, plus 0.25% station tax, plus the 4% SCC surcharge (a flat game-wide levy). Jita's manufacturing index is the highest in New Eden: the same build two or three jumps away can cost a fifth of the fee, and even the nearest lab system roughly halves it. No station in the Jita system has a research lab at all, so invention and copying always run in a neighbouring system. Today's indices:

SystemJumpsBuild fee indexInvention indexStation
Jita016.59%no labJita IV - Moon 4 - Caldari Navy Assembly Plant
Sobaseki110.89%13.67%Sobaseki X - Moon 12 - Propel Dynamics Factory
Ansila23.17%no labAnsila VIII - Moon 14 - Caldari Constructions Production Plant
Faurent32.11%no labFaurent VII - Moon 4 - Roden Shipyards Factory

Invention and copy job fees are 2% of the item's value times the same index, so they barely matter. Player structures with rigs are cheaper still, but you have to find one that lets you use it.

How the ISK a day is worked out
  • Materials at today's Jita sell price for one job of the copy's runs, with the copy's ME applied and EVE's per-job rounding.
  • Invention cost per job = one attempt's datacores, decryptor and job fees, divided by the odds: what you spend on average to get one copy.
  • Selling uses the same model as the station-trading tool: one sell order a tick under the best price, broker fee and sales tax from your skills, and the cost of repricing while you sit on the list, from how often that item's top price is beaten.
  • Jobs a day = the slowest of factory slots / build days, lab slots / lab days, and your share of daily sales / units per job. The detail row says which one limits you.
  • The blueprint is a one-off purchase, spread over 30 days in the daily figure and counted in full in "to start".
How sure is each row?
  • A The item's undercut rate and top-seller share are measured at Jita, and it trades every day at a steady price.
  • B Partly measured, or a steady item where only broader measures apply.
  • C Thin data: it trades on fewer days or its price swings. Size your first job small.

Invention odds and job fees are exact game mechanics, checked against EVE Ref's cost calculator on 2026-09-28. The uncertain parts are prices moving and how much of the market you win.

What gets thrown out before you see the list
  • Rigs and ships: their copies invent to a single run, so every attempt buys one build. Modules, ammo and drones invent to 5 or 10 runs, which is where a small wallet goes furthest.
  • Anything whose Tech 1 blueprint is not sold on the Jita market (LP-store blueprints price at zero and fake the margin).
  • Items with no Jita sell book, a price far from the last week's average, under 5 sales a day, or falling prices.
  • Lines that do not clear your minimum margin, or cost more to start than your wallet.
What this cannot see
  • Station-level demand. "Traded a day" is EVE's official history for the whole region. The undercut and top-seller measures are ours and are taken at Jita 4-4.
  • Your standings. Good standings with the station owners lower the broker fee a little more.
  • Hauling. Materials are priced at Jita. You carry them to the lab and the factory, and the finished items back to Jita to sell, yourself.
  • Everyone else. A line that many players start at once gets crowded. Steady, deep markets rank higher for that reason.
  • Prices after the snapshot. Refreshed every hour, not live.

Same ISK, different lane: the station trading tool shows what the wallet earns without ever building anything. Fees: sales tax 7.5% less 11% per Accounting level, broker fee 3% less 0.3% per Broker Relations level (1% floor). Order books from EVE Ref's snapshots of EVE's official market API.
