PI planner
What should you build, where, for the most ISK? This planner works it out from data this site already holds: EVE's own schematics A ESI-derived / official , which planet type carries each raw resource B Community-corroborated and Jita prices A ESI-derived / official . Prices as of 2026-11-02.
Start from a preset
- Starter
- One planet, highsec, self-extracted and sold on the market, NPC-owned office. For your first colony.
- Multi-planet
- Five or six planets in highsec, mixing self-extracted and bought inputs. For an established industrialist running several colonies.
- Wormhole
- Self-extracted, priced through a player-owned customs office set to 10%, not 0% - the usual case once a corporation has replaced a wormhole's NPC office.
- Factory
- Every input bought and imported, sold on the market, Accounting V. For someone refining P1 or P2 they buy in, without extracting anything themselves.
Where are you?
Type a system (any of 8,088, wormhole J-codes included) or tick the planet types you can reach.
Systems and their planet types come from EVE's own Static Data Export A ESI-derived / official .
Your settings
An NPC-owned office is guaranteed but charges the empire's fixed cut, only lowered by Customs Code Expertise. A player-owned office can be cheaper, but its rate is set by whoever owns it, not by you, and can change - check it in game before you commit a program, especially outside highsec.

Ranked by net ISK per extractor-head hour when you extract your own raw resources, because extraction, not processors, is what runs out: one P4 processor needs hundreds of heads feeding it. In factory and mixed mode, where you buy inputs, the ranking switches to net ISK per processor hour.

How the numbers work B Community-corroborated
Every PI commodity has a fixed base value CCP sets for tax purposes. Customs tax is charged on this base value, not on what the item is actually worth at Jita - a P1 you could sell for several hundred ISK still only pays tax on its base value.
| Tier | Base value (ISK) |
|---|---|
| P0 (raw) | 5 |
| P1 | 400 |
| P2 | 7,200 |
| P3 | 60,000 |
| P4 | 1,200,000 |
An NPC-owned customs office charges 10% of base value to export and 5% to import, each cut by a further 10% per level of Customs Code Expertise. A player-owned office - the only kind once a corporation has claimed it, common in wormhole space, low and null - charges whatever export rate its owner sets, with import charged at half that rate. Only crossing a customs office is taxed: links between pins on the same planet are free.
Selling at Jita costs sales tax, 7.5% of the sale price, cut by 11% per level of Accounting (down to 3.375% at level V), and, if you sell with a placed order rather than an instant sell, a broker fee on top of that.
Program length changes the hourly rate too: a shorter program runs its factories closer to full duty, so a 48-hour program averages roughly 20% lower ISK an hour than a 24-hour one, and a 72-hour program roughly 30% lower B Community-corroborated . We do not model any bonus for running a program under 24 hours - we have not seen good evidence for one.
Liquidity - deep, ok or thin in the table above - comes from the 30-day median number of daily orders in Jita for that item, against thresholds we set ourselves A ESI-derived / official : the order-count data is official, the cut-offs between deep, ok and thin are our own judgement call, not CCP's.
Richness varies with security space: deposits in low, null and wormhole space tend to run richer than highsec, but CCP has never published a multiplier, so there is no number to show here - only the direction.
Layouts that fit B Community-corroborated
| Layout | Makes | Structures | Heads | CPU / PG | Min Command Center Upgrades | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P1 extraction planet | P1 | 2× Extractor Control Unit, 3× Basic Industry Facility, 1× Launchpad | 20 | 6,980 / 18,200 | Command Center Upgrades 5 | Two extractors feeding three basic processors. Export the P1 or haul it to a factory planet. |
| P1 extraction, one rich deposit | P1 | 1× Extractor Control Unit, 6× Basic Industry Facility, 1× Storage Facility, 1× Launchpad | 10 | 6,690 / 13,750 | Command Center Upgrades 3 | One extractor on a rich deposit keeps six basic processors busy. Only worth it where the deposit is dense. |
| Self-contained P2 planet | P2 | 2× Extractor Control Unit, 2× Basic Industry Facility, 1× Advanced Industry Facility, 1× Storage Facility, 1× Launchpad | 13 | 7,010 / 14,950 | Command Center Upgrades 3 | Both raw resources extracted, refined and combined on one planet; only the P2 crosses the customs office. The exact shape of our own five Isanamo planets (13 heads each, Command Center Upgrades IV). Extraction, not the factory, is the limit: one advanced processor wants 12,000 P0 an hour. |
| Self-contained P2, two advanced processors | P2 | 2× Extractor Control Unit, 4× Basic Industry Facility, 2× Advanced Industry Facility, 1× Storage Facility, 1× Launchpad | 13 | 7,910 / 17,250 | Command Center Upgrades 5 | The same planet with a second P2 processor. Only pays if the deposits can feed 24,000 P0 an hour, and the extra pins push it to Command Center Upgrades V. |
| P2 or P3 factory planet | P2 or P3 | 16× Advanced Industry Facility, 2× Storage Facility, 2× Launchpad | 0 | 16,200 / 14,000 | Command Center Upgrades 3 | No extraction: every input is hauled in through the customs office (import tax on its base value), so it runs at full duty as long as you keep it fed. |
| P4 factory planet | P4 | 8× High-Tech Industry Facility, 2× Storage Facility, 2× Launchpad | 0 | 17,000 / 6,000 | Command Center Upgrades 3 | Eight high-tech processors fed with imported P3 (and, for three of the eight P4s, one P1). |
| Whole P1 to P4 chain on one planet | P4 from imported P1 | 1× High-Tech Industry Facility, 20× Advanced Industry Facility, 2× Storage Facility, 3× Launchpad | 0 | 22,900 / 17,900 | Command Center Upgrades 5 | Imports P1, makes every P2 and P3 the P4 needs, exports one P4 an hour. Needs Command Center Upgrades V. |

Skills
- Interplanetary Consolidation: One more planet per level, to a maximum of six. One command centre per planet.
- Command Center Upgrades: Bigger command centre per level: more CPU and powergrid, so more pins and extractor heads on the planet. See the table.
- Customs Code Expertise: Cuts the NPC part of customs tax by 10% per level. Does nothing against the rate a player corporation sets on its own office.
- Remote Sensing: Scan planets from further away: one more system of range per level.
- Planetology: Sharper resource scans, so you place extractor heads on the real hotspots.
- Advanced Planetology: Sharper still. Only matters once you are tuning heads, not when you start.
Setting up a planet
- Buy the command centre for the planet type you want - each planet type needs its own.
- Launch it to the planet and place it.
- Survey the planet with the resource scan to find where each raw resource is dense.
- Place your extractor and set its heads on the hotspots the survey found.
- Add your processors, storage and a launchpad.
- Link every pin together and route the material between them.
- Set the extraction program's length.
- Export through a customs office.
CCP's native PI templates (save and paste as a file, full release March 2025) let you save a planet's whole layout and paste it onto another planet of the same type - the fastest way to clone a working colony. Extractor heads transfer with the template, but the hotspots underneath them do not: the deposits are different on every planet, so re-survey and re-place the heads after you paste one in.
What we measured on our own planets
Isanamo, five self-contained P2 planets, highsec 0.6. Built 15-19 Jul 2026.
Measured
64 extractor heads across the five planets. Individual heads pulled 466 to 2,116 P0 units an hour, a mean of about 1,100 near peak. The player-owned customs offices in that pocket charged 11%. At those extraction rates, production before the July rebalance was worth about 1.2M ISK a day at Jita prices - output valued at Jita prices, not ISK that actually changed hands.
Projected
After the rebalance, the same five planets and the same extraction pattern are projected to be worth about 2.5M ISK a day at Jita prices. This was never realised as an actual sale in the measurement window.
Five lessons
- Balance extractor heads to the scarcer of the two P0 resources, not the richer one.
- Route storage back into the factories, not only the launchpad, or a processor idles waiting on its own output.
- Customs Code Expertise does nothing against a player-owned office - it only cuts the NPC rate.
- Restart extraction programs early, before the old one runs dry, so a head is never idle.
- Self-contained planets and P1-import templates are different tools for different jobs, not the same plan with different numbers.
Every recipe
Every P1 to P4 commodity this planner knows about: what it takes to make one, and the raw P0 tree underneath it, so this page reads as data even with JavaScript off.

FAQ
Can Alpha accounts do PI?
Yes. An Alpha account can run one planet, but cannot own or use a customs office, so you scoop the launchpad by hand instead of exporting automatically.
Is P2, P3 or P4 more profitable?
It depends on prices on the day. P2 is the most reliable tier for one person working alone. Higher tiers can go negative at their final step once every earlier tax and cost is counted in - this page prices every step, not just the last one, so you can see where that happens.
How many planets can I use?
One, plus one more for each level of Interplanetary Consolidation, to a maximum of six.
How is customs tax calculated?
On the item's fixed base value, not its market price: 10% to export and 5% to import at an NPC-owned office, each cut by a further 10% per level of Customs Code Expertise. A player-owned office charges whatever export rate its owner sets, with import at half that rate.
Is wormhole space tax-free?
No, not by default. Every wormhole system starts with an NPC customs office charging the standard empire rate, until a player corporation replaces it with their own - and that office is not automatically set to 0%.
Is PI worth doing in a wormhole?
Deposits tend to run richer in low, null and wormhole space than in highsec, though CCP has never published a number for how much richer. Weigh that against the risk of losing the colony if the wormhole collapses or gets found.
Why are your numbers lower than a sell-minus-buy calculator?
Because we take off customs tax, sales tax and the broker fee, which together roughly halve what a raw sell-price-minus-buy-price figure suggests. A calculator that only subtracts input cost from output price is showing the gross, not what actually lands in your wallet.
